By the way, if you think I am "cheating" by posting twice in one day - with my iPhone upgrade, it seems blogspot will no longer let me post from my phone - so yes, while cheating in the "blog-a-day" project, I didn't know it wouldn't be possible.  Lesson learned.  It won't happen again ;)

Today was another foodie day.  This morning, after a not-so-good nights sleep at the Travelodge, I took my husband to Bintliff's American Cafe, which Yelpers and Urban Spooners listed as having some of the best Corned Beef Hash (my husbands favorite thing to order for breakfast at a diner).  It did not disappoint.  I ordered the Dark Chocolate Belgian Waffles covered in whip cream, chocolate sauce, and strawberries.  The portions were large and definitely worth the price.  Upon recommendation I also ordered an iced Rocket Fuel, which is a drink created by a local coffee shop The Gorham Grind.  Rocket Fuel is coffee grinds that are strained in water and sugar, creating a syrup.  It is then mixed with cream and sugar and since I ordered it iced - served on DUH ice.  It is quite similar to Rhode Islands own Coffee milk, but I preferred this flavor more.  Our portions were HUGE, so we were both able to take half of our meals in a box for a nice leftover feast.

Next we stopped into the Cabot Farmer's Annex to pick up some cheese varieties we cannot get where we live - including Garlic & Herb, Smoked Bacon, Tomato Basil, and our favorite, Hot Buffalo Wing. Then we headed to a Food Network recommendation: Cranberry Island Kitchen.  This place was featured on Throwdown with Bobby Flay for their Whoopie Pies.  They even beat Bobby Flay AND in addition, both Martha Stewart and Oprah list this place as having THE BEST Whoopie Pie they have ever tasted.  If you didn't know, Maine is not only known for Lobster, but also Whoopie Pies, and this place lives up to the expectations.  We were able to sample a few varieties:  original - chocolate cake with white frosting, pumpkin cake with maple frosting, and butter cake with champagne frosting.  All were good, so we went ahead and ordered a mix of a dozen.  Another cute feature is the cakes are in various shapes:  pumpkins, scallop shells, and for the upcoming holiday - turkeys!  I can't wait to taste these.

For lunch, we headed to another Phantom Gourmet favorite: Susan's Fish and Chips.  When we saw this place featured on the show, this is when we decided we had to visit Portland.  Susan offers a Mon/Tues deal - $2.50 for 2 fish burgers and fries.  The fish is fresh and fried right before your eyes - so who can pass up that crazy deal?!?!?  We also ordered the clam chowder, fish chowder, and haddock bites AND an additional 2 fish burgers to take with us.  Again, all fresh and cooked right there.  Yet another hole-in-the-wall place that Food Network needs to come to for sure.  Our entire order - $17!

On our way out, we stopped by the local liquor store to pick up some beer from Gritty's and Maine Beer Company, and also Mead from Maine Mead Works because it caught my curiosity and I have never tried it.

Got stuck in construction traffic around Boston, so the drive home took a little longer than we expected - thankfully we left around noon time, so a 4pm arrival home was not terrible.

Back to work and reality tomorrow!
