October 14

Really difficult morning at work.  Came home and went right to sleep.  When I woke up, I headed to URI for a lovely afternoon with composer Jason Robert Brown, who was conducting a Master Class.  He is absolutely hilarious, while at the same time a GREAT teacher when it comes to performing a song.  I learned so much just by being there, watching, and listening.

I am not sure how they selected their singers, but I was disappointed to see one person had to keep the lyrics of the song with her.  That makes it very hard for not only the singer to learn, but also the teacher to teach.  Why not do something you already know and can improve upon?  You don't have to do a song written by the composer - let alone a difficult one!

And to the group a few rows behind me who thought they were "too good" to listen to what was going on and decided to talk throughout and also text or do whatever on your phone - shame on you!  Were you merely here to meet Jason Robert Brown, or to actually learn?  Because you were very disrespectful, and your talent will get you no where if you continue to act the way you did today.  Embarrassing.

Got home, had a quick bite to eat and am now headed to bed early.  I am exhausted and have an early day tomorrow on set.  yay.
