This morning I returned to the orthodontist to follow up on my first visit to see if my space could be fixed AGAIN. He explained to me that the shape of my two front teeth were rounded at the top and normal teeth are square. Because of this, my teeth will always have a small space at the very top. He said he would remove the brackets on the back of my teeth and recommended braces for about 6-9 months. Then he would send me to a specialist who, once the braces are removed, would replace the back brackets once again. He told me there was no guarantee the bracket wouldn't break again, but assured me that none of his patients who have gone to this specialist have had breakage. In fact, this orthodontist used to do the procedure himself, but too many of his patients were coming back with broken brackets, so he stopped. My dentist says this orthodontist is the best in the state (so good, they don't give referrals because most cannot afford him!), so I trust his judgement. I am also looking into porcelain veneers. Seems they are just as expensive and last up to 10 years before needing replacement and the procedure is a one step process. It's a thought. At any rate, I won't be able to do anything until September, after I complete training for my new job.
