This morning, I went to look for my last pair of contacts, and it turns out they don't exist. Guess I will be ordering another box STAT. So glasses for the day, which isn't a bad thing, except for the 2 auditions I had scheduled. At least I look good with them on, or we would have a problem. So up to Boston for 2 separate theatres, both non-musicals. Got stuck standstill traffic on the way there, so I missed my first appointment. Thankfully, it wasn't a busy call, so I was able to be seen right away. Presented my monologue and the director asked me if I was new to Boston. I said yes and told him I actually live in Rhode Island. He thanked me for making the drive up and like that, it was off to my next location. I arrived early to this audition, but they were running about 20 minutes behind. Because of this, I was told I only needed 1 monologue versus the 2 they requested - though I heard each person before me do 2. Once I got into the room, I was introduced to the 3 people in there and then asked what 2 monologues I had for them. Then they picked the one they wanted to see me do. Once I was done, they asked me about a few things on my resume. They noticed I was a singer, so they wanted to know what I was good at singing. I also have "entire repertoire of silly songs" listed under special skills, so they asked me to sing one. Thank you camp for giving me so many fun choices! As I was leaving the room, I made sure to give them one more smile and look - it's called the "Pappas Twirl" and does wonders.
On the way home my car started to act a little weird. The battery light kept flickering, so I figured I would have it checked this weekend. But, as I was on the interstate about 10 miles from home, the radio shut down and then more lights began to come on one by one: ABS, Airbag, Check Engine etc. As this was happening, I started to move over, so I could exit and park my car somewhere safe, however, my car had other ideas and completely shut down. Luckily, I was able to move all the way over and park out of the way on the interstate, and not create a mess. I have road side assistance through my insurance, so I gave them a call and in return, they called a tow truck to come get me. The tow truck took me to a mechanic close to home. The mechanic took me home while they diagnosed my car.
I was able to teach my 3 scheduled lessons, thank God! And then the bad news. Mechanic called to let me know I need to not only replace the battery, but also the alternator. Over $600!!!!!! Ugh. Looks like my credit card will no longer be at a zero balance.
To make matters worse, I am scheduled to work as a backup for an event this weekend. I had to let them know the situation, and cancel because I won't have my car. They offered to reimburse for a cab ride, but that's over $200 I can't pay up front. So now, I have to provide proof of the car incident or my account with them will be terminated. That's no good!
Plus, I got news that my Uncle Ben passed away this morning.
Needless to say. Today was not my day.
