Super tired at work today. Too much going on this week. I will be happy when New Years passes and everything goes back to normal.
Got home, warmed up my voice and prepared myself for my audition at Ocean State Theatre - which is literally 1.7 miles away from home, so I would REALLY like to get cast. Got to the audition and was surprised at the low turnout. In the past, Theatre by the Sea (the same group is producing) auditions have been packed and VERY busy. Saw a couple people from Boston that I knew and of course saw those who work at the theatre that I know from Theatre by the Sea. Always nice to catch up.
My audition was nothing to write home about. Lately, my voice has been doing some strange things and I think it comes from not singing enough and misusing my voice. I desperately need to get back into taking voice lessons ASAP. It will make all the difference. I decided to use a song I have never done before, but felt it would be appropriate for the role of Anna in 'The King and I', because let's face it, of the shows they are producing, this really is the only role suited for me.
Because I had never heard the accompaniment, perhaps this wasn't the best choice, but I decided to take a chance - they know me anyway. After my song, I was ready to present a monologue, but they told me they didn't need to hear anything else from me since they are already aware of what I can do. They said I sounded good and thanked me for coming in. They asked me to hang around for just a moment because they might need more from me, so I waited - nothing. I was then sent home. No idea what that means. It seemed as if their focus at this audition was on 'Fools' and 'Rent' since it is their first couple productions, so all hope is not lost.
After the audition, I headed out to complete my week of cat sitting. Really would like a nap, but off to Gram's for an accessories swap with the ladies and then an evening with the "young adults" at Trinity Brewhouse.
