Bronchitis and teaching do not go hand in hand. I am pretty much on vocal rest, so I did my best not to sing or talk, which is not easy considering I teach MUSIC! Thankfully, I only had 4 classes to teach today, so I survived - barely.
Taught my voice lesson when I got home and then headed to the walk-in clinic, where I had the strangest experience. The doctor checked my vitals and after I described my symptoms he asked me if I wanted an X-Ray. You are giving me a choice? Because the clear answer is 'no'. I don't want to pay the extra money for that if it isn't needed. Next, it gets stranger - he asked me what medication I wanted him to prescribe to me. What?!?!?!? He mentioned what I was given on the last visit and I turned it down due to some side effects I don't care to mention. So, I mentioned the Z-Pak and he agreed. So, I picked out my medication. That has most definitely NEVER happened to me before.
The evening ended with my Acting class, where we had to do something in front of the class that we do everyday alone - truthfully. No acting. I brushed my teeth. What a strange feeling to brush my teeth in front of my entire class, but I did it and I did it as if no one was watching. Truth.
T-minus 4 days till my next audition. Last year I bombed my audition for this theatre because I was sick. I completely forgot my monologue. Tried to do it 3 times before I stopped and said "I need to go home and get some rest. I can't do this right now." and walked out. Complete embarrassment. This year I will not let that happen. Just hope my voice holds up.
