April 24

Woke up at 3am.  Left my house at 4am to drive to New Haven.  Caught the 6am Metro North train to Grand Central Terminal, to arrive to my final destination - Actors' Equity Association - just short of 8am.

Only about 30 people waiting in line to be let in, which surprised me since there were only 3 auditions happening in the city today.  I thought for sure EVERYONE would be there.  At 8:30am sign-up began.  I scored an audition in the first group of the day at 9:30am.  This allowed me some time to make myself presentable before the audition, but still be one of the first to sing.  I prefer it that way because the later you go, the more tired the casting directors are from seeing so many people throughout the day.  The show is a Gilbert and Sullivan, but since I have no G&S in my book, I selected an uptempo comical character piece that showed my upper and lower range.  In the room was the Casting Director, Casting Associate, Director, and Accompanist.  Another great reason to audition in the first group of the day - everyone involved with the show was still in the room.  I was super excited to audition for Michael Cassara as I follow him on twitter.  He even said to me "nice to finally meet you".  As I left the room, the monitor complimented me on my song and told me I should use it for "Phantom" auditions, which made me laugh.  He said "seriously" and began to explain to me that he has sat in on those auditions and the casting director gets tired of hearing aria after aria, so my song would be an eye opener, and then if she wanted to hear more, she would ask for an aria.  He then proceeded to tell me to let him know when I get cast.

After the audition, I headed over to Central Casting to update my profile with them, then walked the city until lunch time - with Matt!  I haven't seen Matt since my last visit to the Big Apple, which was, believe it or not, over a year ago.  Also got to meet fellow LC alum Ashley who works with him.

I caught the 2pm train back to New Haven in hopes of beating traffic for the drive home.  Sure enough, that was a smart choice.  I only caught traffic heading out of New Haven, and then it was smooth sailing.  Got home around 5:30pm and pretty much passed out on the couch.  Well, not really.  But I did lay down and watch "Smash" on the DVR.  My husband came home shortly after and fixed some Hamburger (Turkey) Helper for us, and now I can continue to relax and perhaps head to bed soon.  Back to reality tomorrow.

In other news, the job I finished applying to in February that required security clearance - turns out there are no positions open right now.  So, I am on hold for the next 6 months and if something becomes available, I am one of 12 applicants left - out of 80!

Meanwhile, I applied to an administrative assistant position at Carnegie Hall.  It's a long shot, but I do feel qualified because it would allow me to mix my music and computer degrees together.
