Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! Hope it proves to be a wonderful day for you!
Pretty relaxing and unproductive day. Woke up at 6am, but was able to fall back asleep - neither one of us were out of bed before 10am. Headed to Gram's for lunch, and are now home catching up on our DVR. 2 episodes of Bob's Burgers, 4 episodes of Iron Chef, 2 episodes of Chopped, 2 episodes of SNL, 2 episodes of Community. Yup, we got a lot of good TV watching to do.
All sorts of auditions coming up in Boston the next few weeks, so I made the choice to go ahead and take days off from teaching in order to make those. I have also made the choice to ease up on applying for full-time teaching jobs in the fall - there aren't a lot available in the first place - and focus on building my voice studio. If I can get 20 regular students, I can make a living. Currently, I have 10 I see weekly, and 4 floating students who see me when their schedule (and mine) allow it. In addition, if I am going to take teaching voice lessons seriously, I have found a couple workshops and conferences I would like to attend in order to build my level of music pedagogy. This of course, costs money. Who's willing to help me out?!?!?!?
The first: NATS 52nd National Conference, Orlando, June 29 - July 3
Registration - $389, Hotel - $145/night, Flight - $404
The second: Vocal Pedagogy Professional Workshop, Boston, July 6-8
Registration - $835, Housing $150 (worth the price I would pay for gas and parking)
I obviously cannot do both.
