I think I am starting to lose my patience with these kids as I feel like I am yelling at them more and more each day.  That being said, I was worried I might not have a voice for my audition tonight.  Thankfully, I taught a voice lesson when I got home, so her lesson also served as my vocal warmup.

I had the strangest yet most amazing audition for the musical 'Titanic'.  I have auditioned once a few months ago for this director and he immediately recognized me.  I was ready to shake his hand, but he went in for the hug and said "I am so glad you decided to come out and audition for us again." like I have known him for years.

Before I even started to sing, he mentioned one of the teachers on my resume as being one of his friends.  Small world.  So then I sang my song, was asked my vocal range by the musical director, and then the director said "I wasn't planning on doing this, but can you sing from the score real quick?  I want to hear what your voice sounds like on this song."  As I began to learn the song, the director then chimed in again with another name on my resume - they went to school together.  Even smaller world.

Sang the song, but he wasn't done with me yet.  He asked me to have a conversation with him in an Irish accent (one of the roles requires it), and then he asked me if I had a monologue - which I do.  But wait, there's more.  He proceeded to ask me to prepare a monologue from an Irish play for callbacks.  And, then he asked me to read a play they will be doing in the fall, because he is interested in using me for it and wants to hear me read both female roles from that show.

Still more?  Why yes, there is.  He asked me about some of my special skills listed - "you play percussion?" YES.  "We were just talking about having chimes played in the show." "Silly songs?  Can you sing one?" YES.  "Why do you know these silly songs?" ... that question lead into another completely different topic: "What's the difference between teaching music and singing lessons?" and then the kicker: "Would you be interested in working at our camp this summer?" YES.

Finally, he asked me about my dancing skills: "You can tap right?  And if I remember, you are a REALLY good dancer, right?"  Ha!  How am I supposed to answer that?  I haven't done extreme dancing since my college years.  At one point in my life, I wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call myself a dancer anymore.

Boy, would I like these MULTIPLE jobs.  And I wouldn't even have to commute up to Boston.  This theatre is right in my backyard!
