Happy Three Kings Day!
When I was 7 years old, my family took a trip to Puerto Rico over the Christmas break to visit my Aunt and new Uncle. What do I remember from that trip? I remember being greeted at the airport by the Uncle I had never met and a mariachi band. I remember receiving a Christmas ornament made with a real crawfish and crying when their cat ate the ornament off the tree. I remember the New Years Eve babysitter who didn't speak English, so my Aunt taught me a few phrases and left me a cheat sheet so we could communicate. I remember being upset that it wasn't raining at the Rain Forest. I remember listening to the coqui's. But what I remember most was Three Kings Day - which is a national holiday celebrated in Puerto Rico. On that day I received some awesome Puerto Rican candy and we visited the light display which dipicted the journey of the three Kings. I think I was fascinated by a holiday I had never heard of and all of sudden was celebrating with my family. It is a memory I will never forget.
