I was feeling a little nervous about taking on a private acting student, but after tonight, I think it will be alright. I have the student for 45 minutes every week and with our first meeting, I know he is going to be very dedicated to learning this craft. So what did we do? After introductions, we worked on posture, breathing, and warm ups - much like a voice lesson. We then began working on speech with the text I learned from Speak with Distinction by Edith Skinner. By the end of the session, he left with a homework assignment to observe a complete stranger each day this week. Describe their behavior. Who do you think they are? How are they feeling? What are they doing? etc. I think that's a pretty good start. How'd I do?
