Last night while everyone was watching the NFC Championship game, I was watching My Week With Marilyn.
Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.
Director: Simon Curtis
Writers: Adrian Hodges, Colin Clark (books)
Stars: Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh
I love movies that are based on true stories and this one was even more fascinating to me because it circled around life on a movie set. I loved learning that Marilyn Monroe was a Lee Strasburg student and took it very seriously when creating her characters on screen. And though Michelle Williams was not the same - for lack of better phrase - "body frame" as Marilyn Monroe, I thought she was absolutely believable and phenomenal in the role. She did her research for sure. Definitely deserving of nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. I HIGHLY recommend this movie - especially to those involved in theatre, film, or television. It was the perfect length and kept me captivated the entire time.
