Tonight's movie: The Artist
Hollywood, 1927: As silent movie star George Valentin wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.
Director: Michel Hazanavicius
Stars: Jean Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo and John Goodman
I had high expectations of this film since everyone has been raving about it. Though a little slow in the middle, I was not disappointed. This is a silent film, therefore the actors have to work a lot harder to portray what they are feeling, and they did a superb job! Definitely worthy of nomination for Outstanding Performance of a Cast in a Motion Picture. Jen Dujardin also worthy of nomination in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. What I am having trouble figuring out is why Bérénice Bejo was nominated for Outstanding Performance of a Female Actor in a SUPPORTING role and not LEADING role. What makes it supporting and what makes it leading? Because as far as I am concerned, she was the leading lady of this film. All around a lovely movie that I recommend every performer see.
Oh, and since the entire film is told through music, it better win Best Score at the Golden Globes and Oscars!!!!
