Friday

January 20

If you have been following, you know Friday is not an easy day of teaching for me. Unfortunately, I spend more time raising my voice than actually teaching. It can really take a toll on my voice.

Tonight I had an audition for the Rhode Island premiere of 'Avenue Q' and I almost didn't go because my voice was not sounding at its best. I took a chance though and am glad I did because it went really well! There were only a hand full of people at this audition, but there's another day of auditions here in Rhode Island, and a call in New York City as well. I prepared a legit song and the reaction after was "I love this song and you sang it quite beautifully." I was then asked to belt a song, which too went nicely even though my upper notes were weak. Next, they handed me a score and asked me to sing from the show - the role of Kate Monster, which is exactly the role I am interested in. The director asked me not to worry so much about my voice, but rather my acting of the song and after a little direction, I would like to think I nailed it (and I don't say that often). As I left, the director thanked me and said "We will definitely be in touch." The moral of the story, sometimes you don't need to be 100% vocally, so long as you act the crap out of the song!

It should be interesting to see how this might turn out ...
